Since our humble beginnings on a cobble-clad Jermyn street in 1869, Penhaligon’s has endeavoured to follow in the footsteps of our founder: a humble Cornish barber whose brain was bursting with creativity. What was once stimulus that, once spritzed, swayed the senses, became a bottled world. Liquid emotion. The very dew of creativity and eccentricity. Stories told through scent.
And in a world where eccentricity is at the core of our fragrances, our founder, and our values (especially our Britishness), it should come as no surprise that Penhaligon’s champions those very same out-of-the-box thinkers, heart-warming inspirers and joy makers that make the world a more colourful place. A world in which the extraordinary flourishes and the mundane ceases to exist.
Today, some 150 years later, Penhaligon’s continues to support the fine craftspeople and storytellers that express the same passion for their craft as our founder did over a century ago. From cobblers to florists, corset makers to milliners, Penhaligon’s is working in support of The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) to bring recognition to the wonderful artists in our midst and bringing their craft to the world’s stage.
On the Easel - with Luke Adam Hawker
Luke Adam Hawker is a well-renowned artist who specialises in drawing on location. With a fondness for the natural world around him, he is particularly well regarded for his beautiful drawings of trees. Penhaligon’s invited Hawker to join us at Highgrove Gardens and tasked him with bringing the magical silver lime trees to life for the arrival of our green-fingered fragrance, Highgrove Bouquet.
Signwriting Extraordinaire – Amy Goodwin
Penhaligon’s rolled up their sleeves for Dr Amy Goodwin, signwriting extraordinaire, who brought our Christmas 2022 World of Wonder to life through the magic of hand-painted signs. Indeed, her flamboyant fairground signs flooded our noses with fragrant festivities faster than you could pitch a circus tent!
The Queen of Corsetry - Katherine Harrison
Elle a quitté la station balnéaire de Brighton pour s’installer à Londres et s’est taillé une place de choix dans le milieu de la corseterie. Ses illustres adeptes pourront le confirmer : le travail qu’elle a accompli est impressionnant. Breathe in and stand up straight for the esteemed Katharine Harrison.
Stop Motion Storytellers – Richard Higgs & Debbie Smith
Purveyors of joy Richard Higgs and Debbie Smith have been toymaking for decades, and their tremendous talents were put to good use for Penhaligon’s House of Toys. The pair, who work at studio Statler & Waldorf, created toys of Mr Penhaligon and Flappers for a festive stop-motion full of frivolity and friendship, with a nod to Penhaligon’s scentsational past.
